Lily walked down a stone staircase and looked around at the many paintings. The Hufflepuff house common room was somewhere near here, as was the kitchens. She often visited the kitchens late at night. This time, thankfully she had her dad's invisibility cloak with her. Most of the time it was with someone else in her family. She went up to a portrait that had a bowl of fruits and tickled one of the fruits. A door handle appeared and she opened it and stepped into the kitchens, taking off the invisibility cloak. At once about a dozen house elves appeared offering her pastries and drinks.
Folding the cloak and putting it away in the pocket of her robes she sat down on a carved wooden chair and accepted a few pastries and a pumpkin juice. She was going to ask Gabby to come with her but hadn't seen Gabriella in bed. Lily's thoughts switched to what Yvana had told her the night before about forming a new DA. She hadn't liked the idea at all. Yvana had said that Gabriella had been supportive of the idea and Lily had meant to ask Gabby about it...she hadn't gotten the chance yet. How would it help find Frank's killer...Wouldn't they be getting them selves into more danger if they reinstated the DA?

Gabriella had been in the library, looking for anything that could help her with their history of magic homework.... that was Gabby's worst lesson, on the account that she always fell asleep about 5 minutes into the lesson. Sometimes she didn't even manage to stay awake longer than 5 minutes and she would receive a sharp kick from Lily under the table to wake her up when the lesson was finished.
She had actually fallen asleep on the book that she was reading and missed going to dinner because she was asleep. She woke up and glanced round, "Urgh... I fell asleep again!" She snatched up her books, parchment and ink then walked off back to the dormitory. She threw her things in her trunk hardly bothering to keep it tidy. She was never going to get that essay finished. She sighed and glanced at Lily's bed.... she wasn't there. She sighed, "Great...." She started to realize how hungry she actually was standing in the silence of their room.
Gabriella sneaked down to the kitchens, narrowly avoiding two teachers and filch. She got to the portrait that had the bowl of fruits and tickled one of the fruits. She opened the portrait once it let her in. She smiled weakly when she saw Lily. "Should have known you would be here really."

Lily glanced up from her plate of pastries when she saw Gabriella come in through the door. Gabriella and Hugo knew about all the places on the Marauders Map just as well as she did as they used it too, even if she was normally the one keeping it. "Of-course...didn't expect me to be in bed did you?" she smiled. Noticing Gabriella looked as if she had only recently woke up, she realised she hadn't seen her at dinner. "Where were you? You weren't at dinner," she commented, taking a sip of her juice.
She watched as the house elves brought more food once they realised Gabby was there. "Not that it matters now...my guess is you'll soon be stuffed with food."

"Library, Since i fell asleep in History of magic.... again." She added since she fell asleep every lesson in that class. "I was trying to finish that Homework but...." She didn't need to go on she could tell by the look on Lily's face that she had already worked out that Gabby had fallen asleep and not long since woken up. She accepted a few pasties that the house elves had brought her, and took a sip of orange juice. "I am never going to finish that homework Lily..." Well it was a miracle that she wasn't failing it already! She was never awake in that class.

"Oh yea...it's fun to wake you up, you always looked so surprised. Did you know sometimes you talk in your sleep?" she teased. It was no surprise Gabriella had fallen asleep trying to finish the homework later...it gave Lily a serious headache whenever she did History of Magic homework and she always felt drowsy even though it wasn't often she fell asleep. When Gabriella said she'd never finish the homework Lily raised her eyebrows. "From what Yvana's saying we have more than homework to worry about," she said, pushing aside her own pastries. She didn't feel hungry anymore.

"yea I know I talk in my sleep." Gabby smiled. "You can have a better conversation with me when I'm asleep than what you would if I'm awake." Because if you asked Gabby a question when she was awake she could lie but if you asked her the same question when she was asleep she would tell the complete truth. She had never spoke parcel tongue in her sleep though which she was very glad about. "Oh yeah.... Yvana's on about starting a group up." What was annoying was that most people knew how to get round Gabby, Yvana had used a guilt trip on her to make her agree.

Lily smiled and shook her head. "Yep...your sleeping self told me about putting those edible dark marks disguised as potatoes in the Slytherin's food yesterday," she told her. "It's a pity only a few of them ate it..."
"She said you agreed..." said Lily softly. She pushed aside the pitcher of juice as well. "Gabby it's not a good idea!" Something told her Yvana had managed to use the guilt trip on Gabby, she didn't even need to read Gabriella's mind to know that. "How will it help us find Frank's killer? All it'll go is get us into danger if anyone finds out and it can't be kept secret for too long."

"Yea I was hoping Narissa had eaten one..." Unfortuatly Narcissa hadn't been at dinner. She shrugged slightly. "She said that it was something that Frank would have wanted us to do." She said quietly. "I don't know how its going to help us find out what happened to Frank or who killed him... but.." Yvana had asked her what they would do if there was another attack and Gabriella couldn't answer her. Gabriella was still hurting from losing Frank and she didn't want to go though the pain of losing anyone else. Maybe Narcissa was right... if you showed too much emotions then it just set you up to get hurt when you lost it.

"Gabriella..." moaned Lily. She knew what Gabriella was going though- she was going through the same thing. Both of them had lost a best friend but Lily had failed to understand why they should create a little defense club. "Gabby our teachers are brilliant...all we have to do is pay attention in our classes and we'll be fine," Lily told her. Okay so she couldn't promise...it was impossible to promise.
The fact that Frank had been murdered almost destroyed her- it was torture to lose a best friend at that age, that had been with you your whole life. Slowly she had started to get over it. Then it dawned on her that Hogwarts, that was supposed to be safe, had failed it's job. A student had been murdered. "Gabby I know how you feel....but if someone attacks, what difference will it make? We're only twelve. The best chance we have is to stay out of the way." They both knew though that if anything happened, Lily would most likely end up in the midst of it.
"It is a good idea to learn how to defend outselves," she admitted. "But not by forming a group...someone will find out and we'll be in trouble, not from Professors but..."

"Can't no that for sure." Gabriella said quietly. Hogwarts was meant to be one of the safest places there was but it had failed.... Frank had died.... murdered and Gabriella had only been a few seconds too late. If she had been any earlier she may have seen who killed him, or she might have been able to help Frank. Or the worst possible situation would have been that Gabriella would have been their second victim.
"Lily I'm not looking for trouble... Trouble usually finds us." That was true.... "I don't want to lose anyone else Lily.... I won't survive." She said as a few tears fell down her face.

Lily nodded when Gabriella said that trouble usually found them. It was true...similar to how trouble found her dad and his friend. When Gabriella started crying she felt a bit shaken but she herself was sick of crying. She got up from her seat and hugged her best friend tightly. "You're stronger than you think...but leaning to defend ourselves won't save us from the killing curse you know," she told her quietly.

"What are we supposed to do?" She asked sadly, She was sick of crying by now but Gabriella always did show her emotions it was better than hiding your emotions. It wasn't a good idea bottle your emotions up and hide from them. She hugged her friend tightly. She thought about all the stories she had heard about the second war from her Uncle Harry and her own parents. The story that most upset her was dobby the house elf. Who was buried in the garden of her family home of shell cottage.

"What can we go, really?" she asked her. "We're only twelve....just act on instinct I suppose." Lily had always trusted her instinct, and the one time she didn't ended up with her last words to Frank being that she hated him. Besides, Narcissa was right in a way- her dad depended on luck when he was their age, which was understandable.

"I don't trust my instincts anymore." She said sadly. That was bad to say and even worse to say to your best friend, saying you didn't trust your instincts was like saying you didn't trust yourself anymore. She rested her head against her friends shoulder. "Starting to wish that I never came back to Hogwarts this year."

Lily hadn't expected that. "Why not?" she asked. Her, Gabriella and Hugo had been through alot for being twelve...but still, why would Gabriella not trust her instincts?
